IN order to support the growth of its oncology pipeline, AbbVie has announced a major expansion of its plant at Ballytivnan which will create 100 new jobs over the next three years.

The €113 million investment is a major boost for Sligo.

The company already has a plant on the Manorhamilton Road.

The investment in new sterile manufacturing technology at Ballytivnan will help deliver promising treatments for cancers with significant unmet medical needs.

The new jobs will be across a variety of technical and manufacturing positions and the project is being supported by the Government through IDA Ireland.

Joe Kumor, Site Director “This investment demonstrates AbbVie’s commitment to Ireland and the laser focus of our team in Sligo on making a remarkable impact on patient lives.

“We are proud to be recognised for our high performance over the years and are excited to have been chosen to help accelerate AbbVie’s oncology pipeline.”

She added that it built on the governments commitment to regional development as part of the Action Plan for Jobs.

“This expansion of its operation in Sligo is a great vote of confidence in what the North West region has to offer,” said the Minister.
