Abbvie - jewel in Sligo’s crown
IN order to support the growth of its oncology pipeline, AbbVie has announced a major expansion of its plant at Ballytivnan which will create 100 new jobs over the next three years.
The €113 million investment is a major boost for Sligo.
The company already has a plant on the Manorhamilton Road.
The investment in new sterile manufacturing technology at Ballytivnan will help deliver promising treatments for cancers with significant unmet medical needs.
The new jobs will be across a variety of technical and manufacturing positions and the project is being supported by the Government through IDA Ireland.

Martin Shanahan, CEO of IDA Ireland said the pharma sector was one of the fastest growing sectors and makes a huge contribution to the Irish economy in terms of jobs and manufacturing exports.”
He added that it was a tremendous vote of confidence in the capability of the workforce in Sligo and the wider NW region.
Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys said the pharma industry was the jewel in the crown of Ireland’s new hightech industries with huge levels of investment and quality jobs being created. She added that it built on the governments commitment to regional development as part of the Action Plan for Jobs.
“This expansion of its operation in Sligo is a great vote of confidence in what the North West region has to offer,” said the Minister.
AbbVie employs more than 600 people at five sites across the country including its two manufacturing facilities in Sligo.
