Had relapse and broke furniture in house

A 37-year-old man who admitted breaking furniture in a house had a relapse and had gone drinking after a period off it, his solicitor Mr Gerard McGovern told Sligo District Court.

Jamie Gorman of Maryville was charged with damaging furniture at Mahe House, Strandhill Road on November 8th 2017 and with offences under the Public Order Act. There were also public order offences at Mayo University Hospital on July 20 thlast.

Gorman told the court he paid €450 for the furniture damage and was not drinking or taking drugs at present.

Judge Kevin Kilrane said a probation report had recommende­d community service. He ordered the defendant to carry out 100 hours of community service on the November 8th charges of criminal damage and engaging in threatenin­g behaviour with the intoxicati­on charge struck out in lieu of two months in jail. The same order was made in respect of the other offences.
