Country is awash with binge drinking - Judge

DISTRICT Court Judge Kevin Kilrane says the country is awash with binge drinking and alcohol related offences.

He made the remarks at last Thursday’s sitting of the court after dealing with a number of cases involving drink related crime mainly public order matters.

The Judge went on: “It is an absolute indictment of society at the moment with offences ranging from public order to serious assault to people being killed as a result of alcohol related crime.”

The Judge (pictured below) addressed a group of secondary school students who were present in the courtroom as part of the normal school visits.

“I would ask you to note the alcohol problem we have in society today. The past six cases I have dealt this morning with have all been alcohol related matters,” he said.
