People were watching U2 closely as Dolores became a global star
CATHY Jordan, lead singer of Dervish, said the news of Dolores O’Riordan’s death at the age of 46 was so tragic.
She added: “It’s very sad absolutely, it’s such a shock really.
“She’s such an iconic figure, she was inspirational in the way she came out of nowhere and through hard work shot to stardom.
“It’s such a shocking end to a such a creative life at only 46.”
Cathy said she met The Cranberries frontwoman once in a Canadian airport.
“I only met her once in an airport in Canada. It was very brief.
“We hung out with some of the band members at a festival in Canada too.
“Dolores was so inspirational. Some people in the US have said that I sounded like her, I don’t know if I agree with them but I suppose I can see where they are coming from in a way,” she said.
Cathy said Dolores’s music was phenomenal. “When you think about it she wrote all the songs as a teenager when she was going through some turmoil. She became a voice of a generation.”
Although she hadn’t released new material lately, Cathy said Dolores and The Cranberries remain such iconic musicians. “Even though we hadn’t heard from them in awhile, it’s just so sad and my thoughts are with her family and friends.
“Dolores was absolutely inspirational as people at the time were watching the U2 camp and what they were doing next. Then Dolores and The Cranberries sent shockwaves all over the world, they weren’t being watched as closely.
“In that sense Dolores was so inspiring as she showed you can take whatever path, instead of following others and do your own thing,” Cathy added.
