THE FROG PRINCE STARTS TOMORROW

- By EMMA GALLAGHER

NOW in its 21st year, the popu- lar Sligo Hospital panto is back this week with The Frog Prince. It runs from Wednesday to Saturday and is raising money for local charities.

The Musical Society has raised over €150,000 for charity since the panto was first established. Ailbhe Hayes, a Pharmacist in the hospital, said it’s going to be another funfilled affair. “We’ve 25 people involved this year and about 1/ of those are completely new which is good. This is my 8th panto and it’s good craic.

“Deirdre Staunton is director along with Niamh Manley and there so many different hospital staff involved, from doctors, nurses, theatre staff and admin staff. It’s good fun as well, especially in the dark evenings it’s something to do. We started rehearsals back in October and that’s picked up to every evening. “The panto we are doing this year is The Frog Prince. It follows the story of Prince Norman and his evil aunt who wants to steal his throne. There’s lots of magic. Two doctors play the main characters, Padraig and Lua, a doctor from Iran. The costumes we have been putting together ourselves too,” she added.

“This is the 21st year of the panto and so much has been raised since it began, €150,000. “We raised €12,000 last year and year on year it has been growing with ticket sales and a raffle. We’re very proud to keep it as local as possible, so that the money goes to charities in Sligo, Leitrim and South Donegal,” Ailbhe added. “It’s a show for grannies and grandkids, all the family.” Running from Wednesday to Saturday (8pm) with a 3pm matinee on Saturday.
