St. Brendan’s NS is a much-loved hub of education and activity

-

ST. BRENDAN’S NS in Cartron opened its doors in 1985 and is a much-loved hub of education and activity in the area ever since. St. Brendan’s is smaller than most town schools enabling us to provide a personalised and friendly service to our pupils and their families. Our ethos is one of positivity and encouragement.

Our dynamic and caring staff take a personal interest in every pupil and value the diversity of skills and talents that our children display. We provide many “extra-curricular” activities alongside the full range of subjects of the Primary Curriculum.

This year to date we have staged a pantomime, introduced musical instruments in every class through the Music Generation Programme, became part of the Healthy Schools Initiative, started work for our sixth Green Flag , took part in Sligo IT’s Science Fair, ran a lunchtime knitting/craft club and entered the Feis in singing and art.

We also offer a full range of sporting activities afterschool which have included gymnastics, archery, golf and badminton and lunchtime table-tennis and basketball. Our middle and senior classes took a term of swimming lessons and every year Coaches from the GAA and Connaught Rugby enhance our PE programme. Uniquely, we have an Afterschool service on the premises, allowing pupils to stay in school until 6.30pm each evening.

There is supervised homework, play and food in a safe, structured and well-staffed environment. In the last few years, we have welcomed the addition of an ASD unit to our school community, adding to our already considerable expertise in Special Educational Needs. St. Brendan’s is a thriving, forward-thinking and energetic school.

Please come along to our Open Day on February 6 th from 1-3pm where you will be welcomed by Principal Marie Hurley, staff and pupils.
