Good results for Merville’s Youths in weekend action

- BY EDDIE MCLOUGHLIN

ON a weekend where the fixtures were decimated by the weather Merville and Carrick played out a very entertaining game in the under 13 Group A league in the Showgrounds Astro.

Merville started the stronger and took the lead when Dylan Streete put in a lovely cross to Gavin Lynch who got there before the Carrick goalkeeper to nod home.

Merville added to lead soon after where again Dylan Streete did the damage on the right and crossed into the back post where Zach Gilligan was on hand to score with a lovely finish on the volley to give Merville a 2-0 half time lead.

The second half started like the first half finished with Merville on top with the midfield three of Ronan Niland, Ambrose Barber and Lee Conway controlling things.

They scored their third after good work from Corey O’Dowd on the left where he crossed to Lee Conway to shoot home.

Merville added a fourth when the marauding left back Shea O’Néill got forward and fired in off the post from outside the box with a great strike.

Carrick got a consultation goal near the end and a great goal as well where centre half Niall Holahan fired in on the volley.

Merville’s Division 1 side were also in action where they were comprehensive winners over Carrick. The final score in that game was 6-1.
