HANDBALL HONOURS

Congratula­tions to all at the Drumcliffe Handball Club, who were named the Connacht Handball Club of the Year for 2017 by the sport’s provincial council.

The award recognises the sterling work being done by Clive and Hugh and their team in providing handball for the local community.

Saturday morning handball coaching continues in Oxfield each week for new and existing players, from ages six upwards. See the Drumcliffe Handball Club Facebook page for more details.

TIDY TOWNS

The first Drumcliffe-Rathcormac Tidy Towns meeting of 2018 is scheduled for this Tuesday, January 23, at 8 p.m. in the History Centre in Rathcormac. Discussion­s will include activities and plans for 2018.

You are very welcome to attend and please feel free to bring along anyone who might have an interest in getting involved.

CREATIVE WRITING

A nine-week Creative Writing Workshop at the Drumcliffe Teahouse will run on Wednesday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. beginning this Wednesday, January 24, The group caters for writers of all experience levels, including people who feel they would like to write but don’t know how or where to begin. The ever-energetic Carney Women’s Mini Marathon Team are holding a meeting in Laura’s of Carney this Wednesday night, January 24, at 9.30 p.m. to plan activities for the coming year. New members always very welcome.

JUVENILE AWARDS

The Drumcliffe-Rosses Point GAA Club’s Juvenile Awards Night will acknowledg­e the performanc­es and commitment of all the club’s underage teams from under-12 to minor during 2017, at a special event this Friday, January 25, in Rathcormac Hall from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m.

YEATS ANNIVERSAR­Y

The 79th anniversar­y of the death of WB Yeats will marked at a commemorat­ion event in Drumcliffe Church on Sunday, January 28, starting at 5 p.m. The event will celebrate the works of Yeats’ through poetry and music performed by local residents of Drumcliffe and North Sligo.

The event is open to all, free of charge, and is organised by the Cos Cos Festival in partnershi­p with Drumcliffe-Rathcormac Tidy Towns and Drumcliffe Church of Ireland Parish. For more informatio­n contact 087 9973558.

OXFIELD AGM

The AGM of the Oxfield Community Centre takes place next Wednesday, January 31, at 9 p.m. Open to all members of the community and everyone is very welcome.
