Computer classes for complete beginners will commence on Tuesday, January 23, for five Tuesdays from 4.15 p.m. to 6.15 p.m. and from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. at St Attracta’s CS, Tubbercurry. NORTH CONNAUGHT COLLEGE
There is a newly appointed principal at ETB North Connaught College, Tubbercurry. His name is James Hardiman, who replaces Margaret Scollan. Best wishes to both.
NEW GOLF CLUB CAPTAIN
Michael Gorman has recently taken over from Gerard Hannigan as Men’s Captain of Tubbercurry Golf Club. As well as running his tools hire business, Michael is a former hurler of note, and a Champion whistler and lilter. Michael has now taken to playing golf and helping in various aspects of the golf club, and he is wished well in his new post.
MADGE HORKAN R.I.P.
The recent death occurred of Madge Horkan (née Faul) in Luton, England. In her mid ‘80’s, Madge was twin sister of Bridie Synott, who lives on Mountain Road, Tubbercurry and sister of Charlie Faul, Masshill Road, Tubbercurry. Madge was one of 10 children in the Faul family who were born and reared on Church Street, Tubbercurry. Like a lot of her siblings and indeed her generation, Madge hit for England as a teenager in search of work in the late 1940s. There she married and reared her family and she always enjoyed regular trips home to Ireland when she was able to travel. She was pre-deceased by brothers, Johnny, Tom Eddie, Patsy and Jimmy and Sister Josie.
Her funeral takes place in England. Sympathy is extended to her immediate family, her twin sister Bridie, sisters Mary and Winnie, Brother Charlie in Tubbercurry, in-laws, nephews, nieces and cousins. May she rest in peace.
JOHN MOLLOY R.I.P.
The recent death occurred of John Molloy, late of Carnagopple, Tubbercurry. Aged 77, John was a native of Lissananry, Ballymote, but moved to Carnagopple nearly 50 years ago on marrying his wife Nuala. John was an easy going man who had endured ill health over the last number of years.
His remains reposed at the Coen Funeral Home, Tubbercurry prior to removal to St Attracta’s Church, Tourlestrane. Burial took place in Rhue Cemetery.
John is survived by his wife Nuala, sons Séamus and Frank, daughters, Una, Sinéad and Aíne, sisters Mary and Martha (Cork), Sr. Sheila (Collooney), nephews, nieces, cousins and friends, all to whom sympathy is extended. May he rest in peace.
CLOONACOOL PLAYERS
Rehearsals are in full swing at present for this year’s production of ‘Cupid Wore Skirts’ by the Cloonacool Players. This is a hilarious three-act comedy written by that great northern playwright Sam Cree. It will be performed in Cloonacool Community Centre on February 9, 10 and 11, followed by dates in the Hawks Well Theatre Sligo, Ballina Arts Centre, St Brigid’s Hall Tubbercurry and Ballintogher Community Centre.
