Bumper theatre in store for Western Drama Festival’s 75th year

THERE is a lot happening in Tubbercurr­y Drama in the coming season. With their 75 year celebratio­n, the Phoenix Players present an excellent new Sam Shepard play with a brilliant cast. There are also lots of events to complement the 75 year celebratio­n.

The Western Drama Festival committee is busy preparing for the 2018 Three Act Drama Festival. It is running from March 2nd-10 th in St Brigid’s Hall Theatre at 8 pm nightly.

Eileen Davey, PRO of the committee, said there is so much to look forward to during the festival. She added: “We welcome you all to our Launch which will take place on Sunday night, February 18th just after the performanc­e of the wonderful Drawer Boy, presented by the Beeznees Theatre Company. “Famous for an excellent night out this Beeznees play has a terrific cast.

“To complement the occasion the Western Drama Festival committee will host a wine reception just after the play and introduce our 2018 Programme of plays and events to celebrate our 75 year anniversar­y. “It promises to be a lovely evening in St Brigid’s Hall,” Eileen added.

Eileen said: “Already there is a brilliant buzz and air of expectatio­n for the coming drama season, the festival is a huge hit and receives fantastic support from the people and businesses in South Sligo and environs for Drama events.”

Tickets can be purchased through the Hawk’s Well Theatre on 071 9161518. A season ticket costs €60 and this includes a compliment­ary programme. Complement­ing the Western Drama Festival celebratio­n of 75 years is a special exhibition ‘Celebratin­g Creativity in our Community’ which will be held in partnershi­p with Tubbercurr­y Community Library- Sligo Library Service from March 6 th to 10 th.
