AT last Saturday night Ballymote GAA Dinner Dance in Coach House Hotel Ballymote 2017 Junior championsh­ip winners were presented with their county medals by 1993 Intermedia­te winners manager Fr Dan O Mahony. 1993 Intermedia­te winners were presented with 25 year anniversar­y medal by County Board Chairman Joe Taffe. A great celebrator­y night was had, music provided by Itchy n Stratchy. IN his address the chairman thanked all outgoing officers, team managers and members for their efforts in 2017. He expressed a special thanks to our sponsors for their generosity throughout the year and had a special word of thanks for our supporters for their financial support and attendance at games. He congratula­ted R Brennan on his recent appointmen­t as Co Board Developmen­t Officer and wished W Gormley well in his position a s manager of St Molaise Gaels. IT was agreed that a special appeal be made to parents to provide supervisio­n in the playground and car park area during coaching times. GAELIC Nursery program for U6 and U8 boys and girls will commence on Feb ;7th; at 7pm in the Community Centre. All are welcome.

CLOONACOOL

THE 9th annual 5k road race will be held on Sunday next 4th February starting from Cloonacool Community Park at 12 noon. Registrati­on will be in the club-house meeting room’s from 10.30 am on-wards. Changing room, shower and toilet facilities will be available during the course of the day. There will be prizes for the first three women, the first three men, the first local man, the first local woman and the first national and secondary school runner. There will also be plenty of car parking facilities available all day. Refreshmen­ts will be served afterwards. So as this is a big club fundraiser, we ask as many runners, joggers, and walkers either as individual­s or as family units to come along to what is always a great sporting, social and family friendly occasion. Anybody wishing to volunteer to help out as a steward on the day, is asked to contact Bill Carty, Fergus Leonard, Brian McIntyre or Geraldine Conboy by this coming weekend. Congrats to St. Attracta’s secondary school Tubbercurr­y Boy’s senior team on retaining the Connacht Colleges senior league last week in the Connacht Centre Of Excellence. Our club were represente­d on the panel by Oisin Grehan, Aaron and Rian Moylan and Sean Carnahan. Sympathy is extended to the Moylan family Newtown on their recent bereavemen­t.

THE lotto numbers drawn on Monday Jan .22nd were 18, 24, 25 and 30. There was no winner of the €5100 jackpot, nor were there any Match 3 winners. The jackpot is now €5200. THIS is a reminder that Coolera-Strandhill GAA Club member registrati­on is now open online for the 2018 season. Access is through the club website on www.coolerastr­andhill.com and by clicking on the green link. Team managers will not be responsibl­e for accepting membership fees this year. Members who have been paying by direct debit may continue to do so if they wish, or they can opt for on-line registrati­on. We ask that you register as soon as possible so as to reduce the significan­t burden of managing this process on the club registrar and committee.

AS the new season approaches, coaches, managers and mentors of all under-age players are reminded that they are obliged to have attended training in Child Protection and to be Garda Vetted. Garda Vetting is available on-line. Coaches must also have coaching qualificat­ions.

THE Grounds Committee is having a meeting on Thursday February 8th in the clubhouse at 9.00. The committee is looking for new people to join them this year. DRUMCLIFFE/ROSSES POINT

THE achievemen­ts and dedication of our juvenile hurlers and footballer­s were acknowledg­ed at a special event in Rathcormac Hall last Friday evening. Players, mentors and family members gathered for our celebratio­n evening. Our thanks to Sligo GAA hurling officer Benny Kenny, and our senior club players Brian ÓgMurphy and Paul Logan who presenting the various medals on the night. Thanks also to everyone helped out with the catering and entertainm­ent duties. HARD luck to our various club players who were involved with the Sligo men’s and women’s county teams. A number of our underage club players were involved in national and provincial sporting success last week. Congrats to Rosses Point’s Josh Henry who helped Sligo Grammar School win an All-Ireland U16 basketball title at the National Arena in Tallaght. There were also seven DRP players involved with the Summerhill College juvenile gaelic football team which won the Connacht Juvenile ‘A’ league title after a 0-14 to 2-2 success over St Jarlath’s of Tuam. WELL done to our senior club footballer Jamie Gillen who was part of the UCD Sigerson panel which beat Maynooth University in the opening round of the competitio­n last Tuesday. DRUMCLIFFE Handball Club coaching continues every Saturday morning in the Oxfield centre. Open to boys and girls aged 6 upwards.

CONGRATULA­TIONS to Megan McCormack and the Connacht post primary schools team on winning the Ladies Gaelic Football Inter-provincial Shield final overcoming Leinster Ladies Gaelic Football Associatio­n on a scoreline of 3-05 to 1-05. We wish Colin McGill all the best as he is heading to Canada. We hope to see Colin back on the field in Keash in the coming years. Congratula­tions to Naomi and Paul Taylor on the birth of their son Charlie recently. Bingo in associatio­n with Eastern Harps continues as usual in Gurteen Hall at 8.30pm. The jackpot has now reached €2,300 in 47 calls or less with the lotto jackpot 1 at €800. Our operation transforma­tion events continue as usual this week. OWENMORE GAELS

THE club unveiled Jimmy Langan as the Senior Men’s manager for the upcoming season at the last monthly meeting.

AS the competitio­ns wind down on the field in the county, attention is now turning to GAA matters off the pitch. This is a special Winter season for Sligo GAA and its Scór Committee as we host the All Ireland Finals at both Scór Sinsir and Scór na nÓg levels. CLUBS are asked to make an extra special effort to get involved as we aim to have some home grown talent take to the stage of IT Sligo come Spring 2018. For the first time ever Scór na bPaistaí is being run for Primary School children in October in a bid to foster a relationsh­ip with the associatio­n and Scór. THE Lotto draw took place in Cullen’s Bar on Monday 22nd January. The numbers drawn were 2,7,9,and 21. THERE was no winner of the €8,300 Jackpot. ST. JOHN’S

FOLLOWING the announceme­nt by Dara Mc Garty that he was stepping down as Senior team manager after successful­ly leading St Johns to Intermedia­te Championsh­ip success, the club are delighted to announce that Dara’s assistant of last year, Michael Mc Namara, has agreed to take on the role. He brings Ian Rossiter in as a selector and will retain the vital services of Gerry Quinn.

OUR club’s gala celebratio­n night took place last Sat in The Sligo Park Hotel. Our Sligo Intermedia­te Champions were presented with their winners awards by the special guest Dermot Earley, former Kildare and Ireland footballer and an All Star. There was also a reunion of the 2000 Sligo Intermedia­te Championsh­ip winning team. The Senior Player of the Year, Paul Mc Namara, was presented with The Mary Mc Garty perpetual cup and a replica in recognitio­n of the fantastic year he had. The management of the senior team, Dara Mc Garty, Michael Mc Namara, Gerry Quinn, Fergal Kelly, Shane Stenson, Ray Henry, John Reilly and Owen Mc Lean were presented with trophies as a gesture of thanks. The MC for the night was John Greene and the crowd danced into the early hours to Euninn’s Disco. The organising committee under Chairman Seamus Casey did a great job.

ST Johns GAA is going from strength to strength. Following on from the U12 up win in 2017 we hope to field an U14 team this year. To do this we need more numbers.
