Insurance was in a relative’s name

-

A man has escaped a driving ban because he claimed he thought he was covered by his brother-in-law’s car insurance.

Josef Zoltak (36) of Cnoc na Sí, Ballina Road, Tubbercurry, was charged with failing to produce an NCT certificate, failing to produce an insurance certificate and driving without insurance at Supervalu, Tubbercurry on 15 th January 2017.

The court heard that Zoltak’s driver’s licence was in order but the NCT on his car was out by 11 days. Zoltak told the court that the car he was driving wasn’t his and the insurance was in his brother-in-law’s name.

Judge Deirdre Gearty convicted and fined Zoltak ¤250 for driving without insurance but didn’t disqualify him from driving.
