Bree presents book to Hayes

COUNCILLOR Declan Bree has presented a book to Cuncil CEO Ciaran Hayes as relations between the t wo men appear strained as ever. Last month the CEO accused Cllr Bree of being a bully and of manipulating the l ocal press. At l ast Monday’s meeting of the Council, the Independent councillor said: “I note that the term isn’t mentioned in the minutes but at our l ast meeting the Chief Executi ve alleged that my statements to the local media were an ‘abuse of power’.

“When I responded to him I said that it was my recollection that ‘Abuse of Power’ was the title of a ver y interesting book. And Cathaoirleach I can confirm that it is an exceptionally good book which tell s the true stor y of t wo Irish women who dared to challenge decisions of Council officials in Galway. There are many people mentioned in the book including Mr Hayes. It’s a book I would highly recommend and I am presenting a copy which you can pass on to our County Librar y. I would strongly urge people to read it by a former member of the staff of Galway Cit y Council, Ms Julie Grace.”
