Driver had bottle of wine in car beside her
WHEN Gardaí responded to a report of a driver slumped over in her car they found a bottle of wine beside her.
Charged with intent to attempt to drive while over the drink driving limit at Tully Hill, Rathcormack on May 12 th last was Sheena Morcom (44), Kilbride Gardens, Clara, Offaly. Inspector Donal Sweeney said Gardaí received a report at 3pm and when they got to the car the driver was unresponsive. She was asleep and there was a strong smell of alcohol from her breath. There was a bottle of wine in the car beside her. She was arrested and a sample later showed a reading of 132mgs of alcohol per 100mls of breath. Mr Gerard McGovern, solicitor (defending) said that since the offence the defendant had completed a course and was in an aftercare programme. The mother of three was going through separation proceedings at the time, he added. She did not have any previous convictions. Judge Gibbons imposed a €200 fine and a three year ban.
