Driver had bottle of wine in car beside her

WHEN Gardaí responded to a report of a driver slumped over in her car they found a bottle of wine beside her.

Charged with intent to attempt to drive while over the drink driving limit at Tully Hill, Rathcormac­k on May 12 th last was Sheena Morcom (44), Kilbride Gardens, Clara, Offaly. Inspector Donal Sweeney said Gardaí received a report at 3pm and when they got to the car the driver was unresponsi­ve. She was asleep and there was a strong smell of alcohol from her breath. There was a bottle of wine in the car beside her. She was arrested and a sample later showed a reading of 132mgs of alcohol per 100mls of breath. Mr Gerard McGovern, solicitor (defending) said that since the offence the defendant had completed a course and was in an aftercare programme. The mother of three was going through separation proceeding­s at the time, he added. She did not have any previous conviction­s. Judge Gibbons imposed a €200 fine and a three year ban.
