THIS year is a very special one for fo the Metalman Swim Series as organisers o celebrate the 10th year of this popular event. Big changes have taken place over the years. Many of the swimmers are from Sligo but regular competitors also come from Mayo, Donegal, Leitrim, Galway and Dublin to take ta part. The swims take place over three weekends in June with swimmers able to pick from 3 categories, c sprint distance, long distance and skins (non-wetsuit) division. There’s something there to suit all abilities from novice to pro with a choice of swims from 500m up to 2000m. To encour- age less experienced swimmers to take part, a free open water swimming workshop will take place on March 21st in sponsors Call of The Wild.

The entry fee includes admission to the three swims, event t-shirt, chip-timing, silicone swim hat, swim workshop and post race bbq. Entry opens on www.metalmanswimseries.com on February 6th at 7pm. Places went in a matter of hours last year, so don’t hang about if you’re intending to take part. The event is part of a busy swim calendar for 2018 in Sligo which also includes the Channel Cup, Warrior of the Sea, Mermaids Swim, Lough Gill Swim, Rosses Point Night Swim and the Glencar Lake Swim. Organisers wish to thanks Sligo Civil Defence and Sligo Kayak Club for their support.
