THERE was a big celebration in Ballymote recently as local man Paddy Egan turned 90 years young.

Friends and family of the Ballymote native came out in force to help Paddy celebrate in Doddy’s of Ballymote.

Among them was local Fianna Fáil TD Eamon Scanlon who is a lifelong friend of Paddy’s.

It was Paddy who proposed the local TD for his first election in 1985.

Eamon told the Sligo Champion: “Paddy is born and bred in Ballymote.

“He is from O’Connell Street where he lives in home house.

“His father ran a hardware business and Paddy was a builder and a tradesman. His dad used to make carts and donkey cartwheels.

“There’s not many people left who are able to make them. Paddy is in great shape, he’s married to Eileen and they have four children.

“He is one of the characters of Ballymote, we are friends for a long, long time. Paddy proposed me for my first election in 1985, he’s a great friend,” Eamon added.
