ALTHOUGH there was unfavourable weather forecast the Spring Walk Series got off to a great start last week with close to 70 walkers taking to the Sligo trails for two very enjoyable and sociable walks. The Series kicked off on Wednesday with the Killaspugbrone Coastal Trail in Strandhill while a second walk took place at Slish Wood Innisfree Forest Trail on Friday.

The Sligo Spring Walk Series will continue throughout February with a further two walks scheduled for this week. Newcomers to walking are particularly welcome. All walks are along defined trails and walk leaders will be on hand to lead the walks at a pace appropriate to the fitness level of the group. Pre-registration is not required but walkers are reminded to assemble from 10.45am as the walks will depart promptly at 11am.

The next walk is on Wednesday February 14th at the Benbulben Forest Walk, Gortarowey Walk with walkers meeting at Gortarowey carpark (signposted Benbulben Forest Walk/ Barnaribbon off the N15) for 5.5K for approximately 1.5 hours.

Following on from this is the Union Wood to Union Rock Trail on Saturday February 17th with walkers meeting at Union Wood Car Park (Take Sligo to Ballygawley R284 turn right at Union Foods and left straight away) at 11am for 5.5K for approximately 2 hours.

Participants are reminded to dress appropriately for the weather, wear suitable footwear and to bring a drink. On completion of each walk, participants will have the option of joining the walk leaders and their fellow walkers for a sociable cup of tea.
