Devaney selected for Bob Docherty tournament

-

MUIREANN Devaney from Manorhamilton has been selected for the Republic of Ireland U15 girls squad for this season’s international series. The St Clare’s Comprehensive student is a player to watch and has been impressive when previously representing her country.

Head coach Richard Berkeley has named his squad for this season’s internationals which see his side take on Northern Ireland and England in two friendlies before heading to Belfast to compete in the prestigious Bob Docherty Cup.

There is another local interest to the side, as Emma Mullin from IT Sligo is joining the management team as Performance Analyst.

The final selection stems from months of assessment days and monitoring of players since the conclusion of the annual Interprovincial Tournament last November.

The team also includes Ballaghaderreen native Kate O’Dowd from St Nathy’s College.

The Republic of Ireland will welcome Alfie Wylie’s Northern Ireland side to the AUL Complex, Clonshaugh on Saturday, February 17.

The two teams met twelve months previous with the Republic coming through that test with slight ease.

An obviously bigger test will await the Schools select in a fortnight’s time and one that Berkeley will hope will be more beneficial as he studies the capabilities of his players.

Following this, the U15 Girls will be invited to take on Sharon Boyle’s U16 contingency in a closed session in early March before departing a week later for Stafford as they take on England in the annual John Read Cup.

The three day tournament will start on Saturday, March 24th.
