Foleys Bar keep pressure on the leaders

-

FOLEYS Bar defeated the Bald Eagles 3-0 on Friday to keep the pressure on leaders Cornview Celtic in the Sligo Rovers Astro League premier division. Five points behind going into the game, a win was imperative in order to continue their title push. From the outset, Foleys controlled the game and made life difficult for their opponents. Their dominance was quite impressive at times and in the end ran out 3-0 winners with goals coming from Lee Marshall, John Harvey and Eric McMorrow. As a result, Foleys jump to second in the league standings, two points off league leaders Cornview with both sides meeting in two weeks’ time. League leaders Cornview continued their recent run of excellent form after defeating GSS 6-1 on Tuesday last. The score line flattered the leaders somewhat, with both sides level at 1-1 after 25 minutes. However, their physicality and clinical finishing came through yet again as they eventually ran riot on the GSS goal and hit them for another five goals coming from Johnny Martyn, Gareth Kelly, Keith Carty and Barry Leonard. This result made it 10 points from a possible 12 for the title favourites who will be keen to continue their winning form and pull clear at the top of the league standings. The Championship division is proving just as competitive if not more with just three points separating the top three sides in the division. League leaders Sally Gardens had a very impressive 5-0 win over Ballymote on Wednesday last, with goals coming from Josh Verdon, Damien Fallon and a hat trick from Noel Meenaghan. Following on from this, second placed Inter Inferno also collected another valuable three points after defeating the White Gorillas 3-1. Goals on the night came from Niall Bambrick, Alan Doherty and Conor Shanley. Marcus Hunt got a consolation goal for the Gorillas. Meanwhile Calry built on their impressive draw with the league leaders last week by defeating Strand Celtic 3-1 on Friday with goals coming from Ronan O’ Hara and a brace from Trevor Henry. This week attention turns to the cup quarter finals, with games taking place on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. There are two league games on Wednesday. This week’s fixtures: Tuesday at 9pm Sally Gardens vs. GSS; Wednesday at 8pm White Gorillas vs. Calry; 9pm Inter Infer- no vs. Ballymote; Friday at 8pm Cornview Celtic vs. Bald Eagles; Friday at 9pm Forrest Celtic vs. Strand Celtic.
