SCOTTISH SILVER
Ballinaglera’s Michael Cornyn won a silver 800 metres medal when competing at the recent Scottish Indoor Masters athletics championships in the Emirates Arena, Glasgow.
Describing the background to his fine performance in the Emirates Arena, just across the road from Celtic Park, Michael says ‘as the 400m was scheduled just 20 minutes before the 800m, I decide to concentrate on the 800m and with four in the race with times of two minutes 18 seconds it looked like a tight race and so it proved.
‘With Andy Gannaway (Winchester England) and Ian Fitzpatrick (Southport/Waterloo England) pushing a fast pace I settled in third place till the last 400m when Andy and myself started to pull clear. With Andy gaining a yard at the 150m mark I was unable to pull it back in the finishing straight, loosing the gold by one second – 2.19 to 2.20.’
The Ballinaglera man, who competes for Meath’s Dunboyne Athletic Club also added ‘but I was still delighted with silver and my third fastest time indoors over 800m.’.
SHOW AGM
Everyone is warmly invited to attend the annual general meeting of Manorhamilton Agricultural Show Society that will take place in Bee Park Community Centre Friday night, February 23, at 8 p.m.
The Show Committee fully accepts that people may not be able take up committee positions but it would like some volunteers to take on the responsibility of running or taking over supervision of some events on this summer’s 2018 Show Day.
As always your help is greatly appreciated and the Show Committee hopes to have another action packed fun filled show again this year.
