First Benbulben carnival set for June bank holiday

-

The first Benbulben Carnival will take place over the June bank holiday weekend, from Saturday June 2nd to Sunday June 3rd.

The catnival is two-fold with a concert each night and a parade through the town on Saturday evening.

The concerts will feature many leading and local acts like Hot House Flowers, Dervish, Charlie McGettigan, The Dartry Ceili Band, Sandy Kelly, Dean Gurrie and Sligo’s internet singing sensation 12-year-old Leanne Rowlette.

There is crowd capacity for 2,500 each night, and a full house is expected on both nights.

Tickets for each concert will be €20 each. All funds raised by the family event will go directly to four of Sligo’s main charities; The North West Hospice, Sligo Alzheimer’s Society, MS Therapy Centre and Friends of Sligo University Hospital cardiac services.

The theme of the Saturday parade is ‘what’s good about Sligo’ and all community groups are urged to take part.

This is a family friendly event. The launch takes place in the Southern Hotel on Saturday, March 3rd and all are invited.

Con Darcy, committee Chairman said: “This is a fun-loving weekend, and as well as the gain to the four charities, it will boosts Sligo’s economy to the tune of €500,000 or more. This is a chance for us to come together in support of each other and our economy, to be proud of who we are and be selfish for Sligo’.
