Request to ban driver
Inspector Paul Kilcoyne told Judge Kevin Kilrane that he wished to make an application for a special disqualification order regarding Helen Rooney, of River Road, Cartron, Sligo. He said the case was relying on witness evidence from both a garda and a civilian with regard to the alleged bad driving. There was no intoxication involved. Ms Rooney told the judge she had been driving for years and had never come across anything like this before. She told the judge she was only going to a doctor for sleeping tablets, which she was taking at night-time only. The judge asked what time the alleged bad driving occurred at and the Inspector said around 9:30 am and 11:30am approximately. Ms Rooney said she was driving towards Ballyshannon through Grange, wasn’t going fast and couldn’t say any reason why someone would comment on her driving. Inspector Kilcoyne said gardaí have her car as it was thought best for her own safety at the time. Judge Kilrane requested Ms Rooney’s doctor to be in the District Court on Thursday to give evidence regarding her ability to drive.
