Kenny is disappointed at Western Rail omission

“ANY commitment to invest in infrastructure and prepare for the future is to be welcomed but I am very disappointed to see no mention of the Western Rail Corridor,” Sligo/Leitrim TD Martin Kenny said in a reaction to Project Ireland 2040. “The EU Low Carbon Transport Initiative will provide 75% funding for such projects and could introduce an efficient electrified rail network in the West which would enhance the Atlantic Economic Corridor. I am glad to see mention of funding for rural areas and it is now up to us to keep up the pressure and ensure this region receives funding to redress the neglect of past decades and to bring this area into the 21st century in terms of infrastructure.”
