The Sligo Champion

More detail needed says Sligo Chamber

-

“I’M happy that we’re actually on the map because that’s what we’ve been fighting for. But it’s very vague and light on detail,” said outgoing President of Sligo Chamber of Commerce Des Faul.

He was present in the Knocknarea Arena last Friday to witness An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar unveil the country’s biggest plan since the infamous National Spatial Strategy in 2002.

Des said Sligo had water infrastructure capacity for 50,000 inhabitants already but we were “short on gas for industry - it only goes as far as Ballina and there was no mention of that.”

He said the Eastern Garavogue Bridge plan was “never of the map” and also said the proposed motorway from Mullingar to Longford would benefit Sligo and the region.

He did however, welcome the cabinet meeting in Sligo and thought it did signify more than a PR stunt as some detractors have been saying: “It’s great to get all the ministers up the N4. I’d have them in the town any day of the week. They can come back any time they want.”
