Man’s former wife and mother claim he wasn’t driving car

-

THE estranged wife of a 29-year old man charged with dangerous driving has insisted he was not driving the car at the time.

Ms Maria McCabe appeared in court to give evidence after Judge Kevin Kilrane allowed the defendant, David Moran, a week to advance his defence.

Moran, of Calry Court, Stephen Street, is charged with two counts of dangerous driving on 4 th January 2017 at Stephen Street and Holborn Hill.

Garda Martin Kelly testified on 8th February last that he saw Moran driving the car.

However last Thursday 15 th February, Ms McCabe insisted it was Mr Christopher Clancy who was driving the car.

The witness said she was moving from the apartment at Stephen Street and Moran was asleep on a couch at his mother’s house at the time. “The Garda came down and Christopher Clancy took off. He took a chase,” she said and described in detail the route they took up Holborn Hill, down Finisklin Road, Carraroe roundabout and finally hiding the car in Caltragh.

She claimed the three of them returned to get the car that night and drove up North.

Moran’s mother, Ms Eileen Moran, also took to the witness stand to insist her son was present in her home at the time of the alleged incident.

“David was on medication. He was very drowsy and on my couch. I swear on my mother’s ashes David was not driving that car,” she said.

“It was me that handed Christopher Clancy the keys because Maria wanted to get her stuff,” she said.

Judge Kilrane said Ms McCabe’s evidence was “completely not in keeping with the facts at all” but decided to adjourn the matter to 15 th March to consider all the facts before giving his judgement on the case.
