A 49- year- old man will be sentenced at the next sittings of the Circuit for assaulting a couple at a public house. PATRICK (Padraig) McMorrow of 47 Caltragh Crescent, Sligo pleaded guilt y to assault causing serious harm to Michael and Patrice Harte at the Crozon Inn on October 23rd 2016.

McMorrow also admitted to producing a knife during the assault capable of inflicting harm.

Mr Colm Smyth SC instructed by Mr Tom MacSharry, solicitor requested the case go back to next term as the defendant intended going into residential treatment to deal with alcohol addiction. Mr Smyth stated there was a probation report before the court. Referring to that report, Judge Keenan Johnson said that according to his own version of events, the defendant stated that drink wasn’t a problem and that he had reacted to a situation on the evening.

Asked by Judge Johnson were the victims in court, Ms Dara Foynes BL (prosecuting) with Ms Elisa McHugh State Solicitor, replied that they weren’t. Judge Johnson said he would remand McMorrow on continuing bail on the basis that he goes into treatment. Mr Smyth said the defendant would know this week about a placement. The case was adjourned to May 29 th and victim impact reports were ordered.
