Mona McSharry continues to break records

SLIGO’S Mona McSharry continued to smash records over the weekend as she took part in the McCullagh Internatio­nal in Bangor, Antrim. THE Grange native broke the 50m Freestyle Irish Senior Record not once but twice, collecting six medals. ON Sunday morning, the 17-year-old set a new Irish senior record in the 50m Freestyle Heats of 25.82 - knocking .03 off Danielle Hill’s 2017 record.

Just hours later, she beat that record that she set earlier that day by 0.25 of a second.

Mona is now Ireland’s fastest ever female swimmer in a time of 25.60.

THE Marlins swimmer collected six gold medals over the weekend.

She won the women’s 100m Freestyle Final in a time of 56.94 on Friday, before winning the Women’s 100m Breaststro­ke Final with a time of 1:08.42.

On Saturday she picked up gold in the Women’s 50m Butterfly Final in 27.06 seconds, before later that day also picking up gold in the Women’s 200m Breaststro­ke Final in 2:31.77.

On Sunday she won the Women’s 50m Freestyle Final with that new Irish Senior Record before jumping back into the pool shortly afterwards to pick up gold in the women’s 50m Breaststro­ke Final with a time of 31.42.
