Bourbon Bar reach semi-finals of Open Cup

-

THE Bourbon Bar sealed a spot in the semi-finals of the Sligo Rovers Open Cup on Monday last, after coming out 5-4 winners over Foley’s Bar in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

In what was testing conditions for all, the football on show was at times admirable, with both sides eager to book a spot in the semi-final draw.

The game was end to end in the opening half, with both sides enjoying good spells of possession but failing to capitalise in the final third. The game remained scoreless at the break.

The second half conditions proved just as difficult, as the wind and rain continued to make life difficult for both sides.

The opening goal of the game came 20 minutes from time, courtesy of Martin Bystriansky.

Incredibly on the stroke of full time, Foleys equalised which forced a penalty shootout between the sides.

The shootout proved just as dramatic as the second half, with both sides missing two of their five penalties, which then resulted in sudden death.

The Bourbon bar eventually ran out the victors, after a total of 14 penalties taken.

Joining the Bourbon Bar in the Semi Final draw is GSS, who ran out 3-0 winners against the Sally Gardens. It was an impressive display from the men in blue who have struggled somewhat in the Premier Division.

There were also wins for Cornview Celtic and Forrest Celtic on Friday last, who both came out 2-1 winners on Friday last over the Bald Eagles and Strand Celtic respectively.

The semi-final draw is an open draw, which will take place later this week with two members of the Sligo Rovers first team making the draw.

The draw will be published on all social media platforms thereafter.
