In response to the recent severe weather warnings, again can we ask that neighbours and friends please regularly check in with the older and vulnerable members of our community to ensure they have fuel, food, water and are in good communication with family, friends and neighbours. The winter months can be a difficult time for many people who are vulnerable, alone and isolated. It can be a very frightening experience to be without shelter, warmth, food or essential items such as medication. We are appealing to all to look out for the older people in our community who may live alone, have no family or may be at risk of suffering from fuel poverty, illness or loneliness.

PENDANT ALARMS

Merville Community Centre facilitate on behalf of our community the provision to eligible persons of Social Monitored Pendant Alarms, under the Seniors Alert Scheme that is administered by Pobal Equipment Funding is available for eligible persons over 65 years for the installation of an monitored alarm on a landline in the persons home. Recent changes to the scheme include the widening of the eligibility criteria: The Alarms are now available Persons age 65 or older and living alone, living with another person who meets the terms and conditions, living alone for significant periods of time during the day, or is a carer to someone else in their household. First year monitoring is now free for all new applicants. Subsequent annual monitoring charges are then payable by the user. Contact Merville Centre Office at 071 9150029 for further information.

ACTIVE AGE GROUP

The Merville Active Age Group meets on Tuesday Nights at 7.30 p.m., New Members are Always Welcome to come along and Get Involved.

CENTRE ACTIVITIES

Merville Community Centre hosts this autumn a range of activities and classes including Thump Boxing and Martial Arts. Contact Merville Office at 071 9150029 for information of times.

KIDS’ BIRTHDAY PARTIES

The Main Hall is Available for Children’s Parties on an Individual Booking Basis at Weekends Only at very Competitive Prices. Contact the centre office at 071 9150029 for details.

The Merville Centre have some extra Weekday Evening slots in the Main Hall available for Hire by Local Groups and Activity Classes. Special Introductory Rates for New Long Term Bookings.
