SYMPATHY

Sympathy Is extended to the Byrne Family on the death of their father Jim. He was pre-deceases by his wife Nancy and is survived by his daughters Anne and Caroline sons Jimmy and Peter (twins) and Niall. Sympathy is also offered to his sons-in-law Jim Henry and Frank Melia and daughters-in-law Mary, Maureen and Teresa grandchild­ren and great grand children nephew’s nieces and a large circle of family and friends. The remains were removed to the Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven for Mass at midday. The burial took place in St Patrick’s Cemetery Kilglass.

ENNISCRONE OR INISHCRONE?

A public informatio­n meeting will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, in the Diamond Coast Hotel. Purpose of meeting is to provide informatio­n regarding the history of the name Enniscrone and inform people of the progress to date, regarding the holding of a plebiscite to change the official name from Inishcrone to Enniscrone. Please come along and show your support for this community initiative.

BRIDGE CLUB

The Enniscrone Social Bridge club is run each Wednesday in the Diamond Coast Hotel. Bridge commences at 7.45 p.m.

The second round of play for the Late Martin Freeman Trophy was held and again we had a huge turnout. Our final of three Bridge lessons took place on Thursday last and again we had great support from all the members.

The presentati­on of prizes for the Freeman Trophy will be held on Wednesday, February 21, and we eagerly await the results.

ST JOSEPH’S NATIONAL SCHOOL, CULLEENS

Enrolment evening at St Joseph’s NS, Culleens, on Thursday evening, February 22, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. We would like to invite all new pupils and their parents to view our school and meet new teachers. Any queries please do not hesitate to contact our secretary Marian at 096 36467.

BLOTTO

There was no winner of the €2,600 jackpot when the draw took place in. Numbers drawn were 3, 33 and 39. Winners of €25 each were: Michael Hunt, Zuzi Bartonova, Padraic Clince and Mick Corrigan. Jackpot for next draw on Saturday, February 17, in the Pilot Bar will be €2,800.

ENNISCRONE WALKING CLUB

The walk this week Saturday, February 24, is the Galway Wind Park. The level is moderate and the terrain is road and track and the length is15km.

ENNISCRONE­KILGLASS GAA

Our dinner dance was a fantastic success at the Diamond Coast Hotel last Saturday night. With special guests Joe Canning and Peter Canavan providing excellent entertainm­ent, the large crowd in attendance had a most enjoyable evening. Congratula­tions to our individual award winners on the night: Hall of Fame inductee was Gerry Boland; Club Person of the Year was Billy Varley while Donal Mullaney received the Player of the Year award. Congratula­tions too to our under-16s and the intermedia­te team on receiving their medals for their 2017 successes.

The club also presented Marty Duffy with a special award to mark his retirement from refereeing after a highly successful career. A special thanks to our guests Joe Canning and Peter Canavan for their attendance; both are thorough gentlemen and were very accessible to young and old on the night for pictures and a chat. Thank you to the Diamond Coast Hotel for their excellent hospitalit­y once again this year.

Underage coaching Indoor underage coaching has resumed for all age groups for 2018. Please contact relevant coaches for info.

Well done to Dara Rouse, Adam Mullaney and Gavin Duffy, who helped Sligo to a 3-7 to 1-5 win over Tyrone in a minor challenge game at Quigabar last Saturday afternoon. Michael Duffy is manager of the county minor team in 2018.

Castleconn­or-Enniscrone Community Games swimming finals will take place next Saturday, February 24, from 3.30 5 p.m. in Ballina Swimming pool. Competitor­s are asked to be present at 3.20 p.m.

Monday, February 19, till February 27 St Muredach’s Cathedral Ballina. Rosary at 7.30 p.m. each night of the Novena except Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 6 p.m.
