Drink driver made a “stupid decision”

-

A woman who was found drink driving in Doorly Park last April has been banned from driving for three years.

Martha Jele (46) of Clavagh Glen, Tonaphubble, had a urine alcohol reading of 212mgs/100mls when she was stopped at Doorly Park on 13th April 2017.

Defence solicitor Ms Valerie Kearns told the court Jele had started drinking after her husband’s tragic death of a heart attack in October 2016 but she was not using it as an excuse. “The reading is quite high,” noted Judge Kevin Kilrane, convicting and fining her 200 and disqualifying her from driving for three years.

Separately, Damien Kenny (50) of Beechlawn, Maugheraboy pleaded guilty to drink driving at Lower Quay Street, Sligo on 2nd April 2017.

The court heard he had a urine alcohol reading of 166mgs/100mls.

Ms Kearns said he made a “stupid decision” after a night out. Judge Kilrane convicted and fined him ¤200 and banned him from driving for two years.
