No outstandin­g requests for Gurteen estate, says Council

SLIGO County Council says their housing maintenanc­e and repair team currently have no outstandin­g requests for the Rathmadder Housing Estate in Gurteen.

That’s after residents complained to The Sligo Champion about the delay in carrying out repairs to houses and drains.

Residents also claimed that public representa­tives had visited, but that no reports had been filed with the council at the time.

In a statement, Sligo County Council said: “Sligo County Council would like to clarify a number of issues in relation to article on Housing Estate at Rathmadder, Gurteen. Housing Mainte- nance and Repair requests lodged by Sligo County Council tenants are dealt with as quickly as possible and as resources permit.

“Repairs are carried out on a priority basis with items of a Health & Safety nature, and complaints from our older tenants given the highest priority.

“In relation to the Rathmadder estate, Sligo County Council can confirm that the public representa­tive referenced in the article, Councillor Paul Taylor, has made representa­tions in relation to the works outlined. Council Housing staff subsequent­ly visited the estate to carry out the necessary works.

“Sligo County Council can confirm that its housing maintenanc­e and repair team has currently no outstandin­g requests for this estate.”

Councillor Paul Taylor told The Sligo Champion: “I have made representa­tions on behalf of the residents in Rathmadder, Gurteen and the surroundin­g areas in relation to a number of issues.”

Eamon Scanlon TD, also wished to clarify that he had never visited the estate, despite residents claiming that he had.
