Calls for access road to be widened at Kilturra Cemetery to reduce gridlock
Councillor Margaret Gormley has appealed to the County Council to examine the possibility of widening the access road into Kilturra Cemetery in a bid to reduce traffic congestion at the time of burials.
She told officials there was a very wide ditch along the road.
Senior Engineer Tom Brennan told Councillor Gormley that there were no funds currently available to allow for the widening of the road, or to create some off-road parking to reduce traffic jams after funerals at the cemetery.
However he said if Class 3 road funding or Community Involvement Schemes were announced this year then they would be able to consider funding this project,” he told Councillor Gormley, who raised the issue at this month’s County Council meeting. CIS is essentially a joint venture between communities and the Council aimed at improving the quality of local roads.
