CLUB SLIGO

THE Draw for the Club Sligo Early Bird prize of a trip for two to the Connacht Championsh­ip Match between Sligo and London took place in the Sligo GAA Centre of Excellence on Friday evening.

267 members of Club Sligo who had renewed their membership by the 16th February deadline were included in the draw. Sligo Senior Team manager, Cathal Corey drew the winning ticket which was Sligo County Races.

10 Clubs who had reached or exceeded the sales target were included in a draw for €1000 and €500.

St. Michael’s GAA Club were first out of the hat to win the €1000 prize with Shamrock Gaels winning the €500 prize. Thanks to all who have signed up to Club Sligo so far.

The first three monthly draws take place on Sunday 4th March during half time in the Sligo v Longford Allianz League match for all members signed up by Friday 2nd March.

BALLYMOTE HANDBALL

CLUB Member Cormac Finn travelled to Moycullen Handball Club on last Tuesday evening to play in the Connacht Final of the Boys Under 15 Singles 40x20 Championsh­ip. The Sligo Player put on a great performanc­e when he defeated Galway’s David Donoghue in a three game encounter winning the first game loosing the second and winning the third thus booking a place for himself his club and county in the All Ireland Semi Final. The club is proud of Cormac’s achievemen­t as he continues the proud tradition of bringing silver ware back to Ballymote an Sligo. The All Ireland Juvenile Semi Finals are fixed for Claregalwa­y Handball Club Saturday March 3 rd. The County Boys Under 11 Singles was played at Collooney Handball Court on Friday last. Club members Colin Finn ,Senan Sheehan,Kieran Connolly,Sean Hannon all took part in the competitio­n.

CLOONACOOL

THE club is running a clothes collection again next weekend in order to fund club jerseys for our underage teams, and to purchase a new set of juvenile goalposts. clothes contributi­ons can be left into the community park on Friday evening next at 8-9 pm on Saturday between 3-4 pm and on Sunday between 11.30 and 12.30 pm. Please support. The best of luck to new senior team manager for the coming season Brian McIntyre and his selectors, yet to be finalised, as the squad prepares for the new season ahead. Well done to St. Attracta’s senior college team Tubbercurr­y on reaching the Connacht colleges championsh­ip final by virtue of a good victory over St Gerald’s college Castlebar last weekend in Roscommon. We wish them all the best of luck in the final. Congrats are extended to senior player Darren Heneghan and Michelle Hayes who celebrated their wedding last weekend.

EASTERN HARPS

OUR Operation Transforma­tion came to a close last Saturday night in Teach Murray where the overall winners were announced. Congratula­tions to Teresa Horan, Des Horan, Jackie McGowan, David Keenan, Fidelma Horan, Charlotte Hannon and Gerard McMahon who scooped the awards. Well done to Alan Davey, Shawn O’Hara, Brian Molloy, Brian O’Hanlon and James O’Hara who were part of the St. Nathys college team who beat Athenry in the Connacht B League final. The teams couldn’t be separated after 2 periods of extra time, 1-10 to 0-13 so free kicks were needed to decide the winners. Bingo continues every Friday night at 8.30pm in Gurteen Hall. Jackpot is €2,700 in 48 calls or less. The in house lotto is €300.

TUBBERCURR­Y

IT is great to see that we’re well represente­d on the three St Attracta’s teams including the Seniors who take on Rice College on Saturday in the Connacht final. Best of luck to all and if you can please get out and support them and show that we’re really proud of them all.

THANKS so much to everyone who came out and supported our fundraisin­g car wash and thanks to all the lads who put in great work in organising and running it. Thanks also to the McSorley family for the use of their facilities. Next up in our fundraisin­g drive will be a social dance in The Mayqueen on Saturday the 3rd of March where you can dance the night away to Caroline McLoughlin and band. All proceeds from the door will go towards the park developmen­t so thanks to The Mayqueen in advance. Casting will start shortly for the main event ‘A Night At The OsKaRs’ So if you feel like a bit of fun and a challenge why not get in touch with one of the club’s event organisers. Who knows it could be your big shot at stardom and if not then we can guarantee you that it will be a fun experience. The big finale will take place in The Sligo Park Hotel on the 26th of May. A night not to be missed..Calling all boys and girls from 6 years up to 14 years old in the South Sligo area. Tubber seniors are running a fun Easter camp on March 26th,27th and 28th from 10-2:30pm in Kilcoyne Park. A great way to kick off your Easter holidays. Congratula­tions to all involved with CT Gaels underage teams on a wonderful presentati­on evening in St. Brigid’s Hall on Friday evening. There was a great selection of silverware on display. All teams from u12-18 tasted success during 2017 and this is great credit to all the players and coaches. Thanks to everyone who provided and served refreshmen­ts. Martin Seery received The Club Person Of The Year award for his tireless work for ladies football in the club and county. Michael Rowley received a Hall Of Fame award while Maurice Conboy received a Special Merit award. A special mention goes to Patrina McCarthy who produced a wonderful photo booklet of the clubs memories throughout the year. A must have for all.

BALLYMOTE

ON Sunday 4th March Ballymote GAA host Monster Auction in Loftus Hall at 3pm. All week Committee members are busy collecting items for auction. There is still time to gather items and contact any committee member to aid collection. U 8 training is Friday 6-7pm in Loftus Hall, while U 10 is same day and time venue Colaiste Mhuire school Gym. SHAMROCK GAELS

THE monthly club meeting will be held this Friday 2nd March at 9PM with the Bord NaNog meeting at 8.30PM. Well done and congrats to Aoife McDermott on her first Rugby Internatio­nal cap at the weekend. It is a great achievemen­t for Aoife and her family as she continues to put Riverstown firmly on the map. Preparatio­ns are well underway for the London trip to see Sligo V London in the 1st round of the Connacht Championsh­ip. The trip will be an all inclusive package including flights, hotel and transfers from the airport and to the match on Sunday 6th May. We plan to fly from Knock Airport on Friday morning 4th May to Stansted and rooms have been reserved at the Clayton Hotel in Chiswick. The flight will return on Monday 7th to Knock. There was no winner of the lotto draw at the weekend with 2 match 3 winners, Vivion Boyd and Mae Keegan. The next draw is in Sean Macs on March 10th with the jackpot at €3,200. The club’s dinner dance takes place in the Clayton Hotel on Friday 6th April at which medals will be presented to the U21 Championsh­ip winning team. Reserve the date in your diary. Registrati­on for underage players from U6 to U18 - boys and girls - takes place this Saturday 3rd March in Coola from 2-4PM. Players should attend with a parent to sign the form - fees the same as last year, €35 per child up to a maximum of €100 per family - this fee also covers insurance for the year. ST FARNAN’S

OUR Nursery programme will begin on Saturday, March 3rd from 6-7pm on the Astro Turf , Dromore West for 4-10 years old. Club membership for this age group costs €20 which includes a free t-shirt. Cost per session attended is €2. Bring gum shields and a water bottle.

A number of events are planned in the lead up to our Blue and White Fight Night. Oisín Connolly holds a Car Wash at Feeney`s on Saturday, March 3rd from 10am. Niall Culkin and Eunan Curran are having a “Slave, Date Auction” in The Still on Friday, March 2nd. On Friday, March 9th Fergal Kilgannon hosts an Arm Wrestling Night, also in The Still. Please support all our boxers in their efforts to raise funds for the club.

OUR Club Dinner Dance takes place in Kilronan Castle on Friday next March 2nd at 8pm. There are still some tickets available at 30 euro through our club secretary Teresa O’Rourke for what promises to be a great night. Medals will be presented to our senior championsh­ip ladies team and Benson Cup winning Intermedia­te footballer­s on the night. OUR successful u-14 boys and u-16 girls received their medals at a function in the Resource Centre on Friday evening last when the special guest was former county star Paul Taylor. TICKETS are now available for the National GAA Club draw with some fantastic prizes on offer. Tickets cost 10 euro each with all proceeds going to Geevagh GAA. BEST wishes to the boys of Geevagh N.S. who have qualified for the semi-final stages of the Cumann na mBunscol indoor hurling final championsh­ip which takes place in Collooney on Thursday.
