Parade donations will benefit Social Services
PROCEEDS from the bucket collection at this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in Sligo town will go to Sligo Social Services.
Sligo Social Services is a unique organisation that has contributed positively to the lives of many children, families and adults in Sligo and Leitrim for almost 50 years.
Sligo Social Services provides a number of homeless services including homeless hostels for single adults, short-term family accommodation and a tenancy sustainment service for those at risk of becoming homeless at three locations in Sligo: Maryville, Ballytivnan and four family units in the centre of town.
They provide pre-school and afterschool services and also meals on wheels and befriending services for the elderly in the Sligo area.
Sligo Social Services currently support a Syrian Refugee Resettlement programme, welcoming 20 families and also run over 50 Community Employment schemes throughout Sligo.
They offer a free Open Access Service, four afternoons per week providing people with information, support and advocacy - this is a walk-in service, and is open to anyone who needs it.
It takes the commitment of statutory funders and donors, from staff, dedicated volunteers and supporters to help us Sligo Social Services do this vital work in our local community.
“We are very grateful that we have benefited from such support over the years.
“Every donation big or small makes a difference to the services that we can deliver and we are delighted to have the support of the committee in the annual St Patricks Day Parade in Sligo,” a statement said.
This year’s parade in Sligo town starts at 12 noon on Mail Coach Road and finishes at Our Lady Of Mercy Primary School.
Organisations are invited to submit floats focusing on the theme of ‘ The Year of the Woman’. You can still register to take part in the St. Patrick’s Day parade on the website at sligostpatricksday.com.
