Groups all set for the Connacht Scór finals
THE winners from the recent Sligo Scór Sinsir are preparing to take part in the Connacht finals which are being held on Bank Holiday Monday.
There were numerous winners from the Sligo Scór Sinsir finals from across the county.
There were held in Kilmacowen Hall and the full house was treated to a great’s night entertainment.
The organisers said they were delighted with how it went and it was one of their best attended Scór Sinsir finals in years.
In all 10 clubs took part. The first winners were Coolera/Strandhill in the table quiz who dethroned long standing champions St Molaise Gaels.
Their team was made up of Eamonn Mullen, Sean Carroll, Trevor Hunter and Michael Henehan.
In the Solo Singing Siobhan Foy of St Farnan’s saw off competition from Owenmore Gaels, Coolera/Strandhill, Coolaney/Mullinabreena, St Molaise Gaels and St Mary’s.
Frances Hanley also of St Farnan’s won the recitation and was joined in the competition by Bunninadden and St Molaise Gaels.
Two enjoyable Leiriu from St Molaise Gaels and St Farnan’s performed with the latter claiming the spoils.
St Mary’s won the Ballad Group.The final competition saw St Farnan’s do a clean sweep as they won the Instrumental Music and were joined on stage by St Mary’s and Naomh Eoin Hurling Club.
Cllr Keith Henry Irish and Cultural Officer with Sligo County Board wished all of the local participants the best in Monday’s competition.
He said: “Well done to all and best of luck to our winners in Connacht Finals on March 19 th.
“The All-Ireland finals will be held in Sligo on April 14 th and we are expecting huge crowds for that in Sligo,” he added.
