St Angela’s linkup with employers

-

THE St Angela’s College Employer Portal was officially launched recently which is a collaboration between the college and the Northwest Regional Skills Forum.

It’s purpose is to provide a single access point for regional employers to connect with a range of services and supports available across the College and its Food Technology Centre.

The Portal gives immediate access to employers in the Food Industry who will be able to propose projects for students of the Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition, Food and Business Management in areas such as Market Research, Social Media Marketing and Final Year Research Projects. Employers will also be able to offer work placements, summer work and employ graduates. The portal was launched by Declan Courell (Registrar, St. Angela’s College), Ronan McArt (Joint Programme Director for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition, Food and Business Management, St. Angela’s College), Michael Hosey (Manager, The Food Technology Centre), Brenda Donagher (Rural Enterprise Skillnets) and Oran Doherty (Regional Skills Forum Manager, North West).

Targets set by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine under the Food Wise 2025 strategy seek to grow Irish Agri-Food exports to €19 billion per annum by 2025 (€13.5 billion for 2017).

Mr McArt noted that the express aim of the Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition, Food and Business Management Programme at St. Angela’s College was to develop graduates with the knowledge and skills to creatively solve problems for food producing organisations and their clients.

This can be enhanced by close collaboration with employers in the Food Industry and the provision of real industry problems as student research projects.

St. Angela’s College and the Food Technology Centre are committed to helping organisations in the Food Industry, wherever feasible, meet the export growth targets outlined in the Food Wise 2025 plan.

Employers in the food industry can visit the Employer Portal at St. Angela’s College now using the link www.stangelas.nuigalway.ie/employers to see the range of facilities and services
