IT Sligo ladies reach the final
AFTER a wait of 10 years IT Sligo ladies played at the O’Connor Cup during the weekend.
On Friday the Northwest side faced DIT in the second semi final.
It was DIT who started well but Sligo got more into the game.
Carol Coleman settled IT Sligo with the opening goal of the match as they lead by two points at the break 1-5 - 1-3.
The Gavin Cawley managed side were unable to play Lauren Boles, Denise McGrath and Rachel Kearns who were all playing for the soccer team who were on duty in UL.
Lucky enough the IT girls were able to play the second half and were significant in this period.
After a poor start to the second half with Bronagh Sheridan netting for DIT it put the Dublin team in front but the sides were level with 15 minutes left to play.
The introduction of three soccer players paid off as Rachel Kearns got the key goal to send IT Sligo into the Lynch Cup final on final score 3-9 - 1-9.
On Saturday IT Sligo played talented UUJ Side in the final but a couple of injuries and tiredness didn’t help the IT Sligo cause as UUJ were too strong on the day.
