Sligo’s SIS pitch laying firm achieves prestigious certification
SLIGO-OWNED SIS Pitches, which specialises in sports playing fields has become the first in the UK and Ireland to be double-certified individually by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and is now a FIH Certified Manufacturer and FIH Certified Field Builder.
This means that SIS is certified as both an approved synthetic turf manufacturer as well as a hockey field builder.
SIS, which is head-quartered in Sligo, is a world leader in synthetic and natural sports surfacing. The company lays synthetic pitches across the globe, with some of its most prestigious hockey pitches located at the University of Manchester, the University of Hull and Ben Rhydding Hockey Club in the North of England.
Commending SIS, Alastair Cox, FIH Facilities and Quality Programme Manager, said: “The consistently high standard of hockey turf manufacturing and the construction quality demonstrated in SIS Pitches’ field building earned them the right to be internationally endorsed by our Quality Programme for Hockey Turf. This is no easy feat.
“Additionally, their commitment to providing great hockey facilities that support our Hockey Revolution strategy to make our sport a global game that inspires future generations, was an important factor in their application.”
SIS was set up by Sligo native George Mullan in 2001, employing just two people. It now employs 245 people worldwide with offices in Ireland, the UK, Holland, the Middle East, Russia and Turkey.
