CRANMORE YOUTH PROJECT

AN exhibition by the children of Cranmore is currently running in The Model until the end of the month. This work was part of a community collaboration between Cranmore Co-op Youth City and The Model. A series of workshops took place at Youth City Cranmore Co-operative and The Model between December and February.

The theme of the work is Identity & Belonging and depicts the children’s areas of interest and the important things in their lives.

Members of Youth City engaged in experimentation with traditional print techniques and illustration over the course of the workshops. This culminated in the compiling of a Zine titled Unicorn Rainbow People.

This project was led by Dany Guest, a print maker and artist and supported by Niall Breen an Illustrator and Comic artist both of whom are based in Sligo. Youth City is a drop in youth centre facilitated by The Inside & Out project and is generously funded by the International Fund for Ireland Peace Impact Programme. The Model thanked all the Youth City volunteers; Maureen, Deidre, Niamh and Emer McFadden, Community Development Worker at Cranmore Cooperative for all their support and time.

On the 100 th anniversary of the movement that resulted in some women gaining the right to vote, Splódar Theatre Company is set to bring “The Factory Girls” by Frank McGuinness to the Glens Centre Manorhamilton. It will be staged across four nights from March 21st-24 th. The series of shows along with a special performance in Loughan house in Cavan sees the community theatre group continue to make the arts as accessible and relevant to as many as possible. The five female characters are the main protagonists of the play, colleagues in a Donegal shirt factory faced with the threat of redundancy. They decide to take matters into their own hands and stand up against powerful odds. For Mc Guinness it was to be his first full length play in 1982. The play stars Eileen Slevin as Ellen, Sheila O Keeffe as Una, Treasa Nealon as Vera, Sarah Ferguson as Rebecca, Kaytlin O Hara as Rosemary, Darragh Heraghty as Rohan, Dave Mc Avoy as Bonner. Now touring their third studio album, You Don’t Own Me Anymore, the girls perform at the Hawk’s Well Theatre as part of their current tour, following their recent nomination for this album for Best Folk Album at the Grammy awards this year.
