Asian students robbed on trip

A group of visiting Asian students had €520 robbed from the hostel they were staying in by one of its workers. Laura Peacock (48) of Hazelwood Avenue pleaded guilty to four charges of larceny at Harbour House Hostel between October 30 th and 31st 2016. The court heard the students had come to Sligo as part of the Dublin South East Asia students associatio­n and were staying for two nights in the hostel. A number of them realised money had been stolen from them overnight. The defendant later admitted what she had done to gardaí. Defending solicitor Mr Gerard McGovern said us his client was down on her luck at the time and had issues with alcohol. She was very remorseful and compensati­on had been paid to the injured parties. She was currently paying back €20k over the next ten years in relation to a Circuit Court sentencing over money she had taken in a pension after her parents died. Judge Kevin Kilrane imposed a four month prison sentence suspended for two years.
