Remarkable running as Cadden and Kilcoyne take medals in Nationals
IT was seven heaven for Lauren Cadden and Ellen Kilcoyne as both took medals in National Juvenile indoors on Sunday.
A phenomenal 7.77 won her the heat and this was replicated by Ellen Kilcoyne for the bronze medal in the girls u17 60m. This time is a massive slice off her PB, nearly half a second this year and what a place to land it.
Her training partner the lively Lauren Cadden went down in her heat fluffing her start by the tiniest of margins but made no mistake in winning the girls u19 60m final an hour later, her first since taking gold 2 years ago in the 200m indoors and All Ireland schools outdoors.
There was also a PB for Erin Taheny as she went 8.03 to qualify for the girls u16 final and 8.04 in the final for a very, very close 6th place finish.
Kate Hosey was unlucky to false start in her heat but will have the long jump in 2 weeks’ time where she will be in the mix for medals. Eimear Connolly ran 8.4 which is near her best as she ran credible in her heat without advancing and Orna Murphy in the u13 girls was .01 outside a final spot but again will turn to the long jump next weekend where she will look to defend her crown.
In the 1500m Barry Clavin ran a PB and finished a very credible 8th place in the boys u16 and Aaron Brennan ran a solid race but didn’t make the final but will have leaned loads.
Adam Walsh from South Sligo learned at u17 level the work must go in to get the result as he missed out on a final spot in the long jump.
All in all it was a very progressive weekend with more action to follow this weekend with Taheny and Cadden both stepping up to the 200m.
