Rovers’ youth sides face weather delays

-

TWO of Sligo Rovers’ youth sides were forced to wait an extra seven days to start their season at the weekend due to the inclement weather conditions in the east of the country.

Rovers’ under 19s were due to take on their St Patrick’s Athletic counterparts at the Sean Fallon Centre on Sunday afternoon last.

While the under 17s had been looking forward to getting their campaign underway against the same opposition in Dublin. But the FAI ruled on Saturday that, due to expected poor conditions, all under 19 and under 17 national league games would not go ahead. The under 19s are now scheduled to play their first competitive game of the season this Sunday coming, with an away game at Bohemians. While the under 17s host the Gypsies at the Showgrounds on the same day. The FAI is yet to reschedule both of last weekend’s game. Meanwhile, the SSE Airtricity National Under 15 League season begins this Sunday and will see three groups of eight teams play against each other throughout a total of 14 league games.

Rovers have been drawn in group two alongside Athlone Town, Mayo League, Cabinteely, UCD, Bray Wanderers, Shamrock Rovers and Longford Town whom the Bit O’Red begin their season against this Sunday at the Sean Fallon Centre.
