Annual 1916 Commemoration ceremony
EDDIE Glackin, of the Peadar O’Donnell Socialist Republican Forum will deliver the oration at this year’s Annual 1916 Commemoration ceremony.
The ceremony which takes place at the Republican Plot in Sligo cemetery on Easter Sunday at 12pm.
Corey Whyte will preside at the traditional event which is held under the auspices of People First.
Cllr Declan Bree will introduce the guest speaker.
Mr Glackin is a life long trade unionist, a writer and a leading member of the Peadar O’Donnell Socialist Republican Forum.
He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Ireland and a former Chair of SIPTU’s Irish Trade Union Trust.
His recent book “The Bloody Trail of Imperialism - the origins of the First World War” has received numerous favourable reviews and has been described as a classic history primer for young people with an interest in history and the First World War.
Those attending the commemoration ceremony are asked to assemble at Cairns Drive at 11.50. a.m. on Easter Sunday morning with the ceremony at 12pm.
