Ó’Caoláin to deliver SF Easter oration
SINN Féin has announced details of its forthcoming Easter Commemoration. Cllr. Chris MacManus said the parade would assemble outside Markievicz Park at 3pm on Easter Sunday and make its way to the Republican Plot.
This year’s oration will be delivered by Deputy Caoimhghin Ó’Caoláin from Monaghan. Cllr. MacManus encouraged those people from throughout County Sligo who marked Easter Rising commemorative events over the last few years to continue making the effort.
“The principles of the 1916 Proclamation should not only be celebrated on significant anniversaries but every single year.
“This year especially, we celebrate the centenary anniversary of the historic 1918 election where Constance Markievicz, one of the few 1916 veterans of Sligo origin, became the first ever woman to be elected.” He also encouraged people to wear an Easter Lily. “We ask that people wear an Easter Lily as a token of remembrance to all those who died for Irish Freedom.”
