Vintage and classic car compound gets the green light at Carraroe

-

COUNTY planners have given the green light to a vintage and classic car storage compound at a Carraroe Business Park.

William Tighe has been granted permission to store a maximum of 11 classic cars in a new storage shed and compound at Carrowgobbadagh Business Park.

It’s despite having no planning permission for a fuel depot/sales outlet and an extension to Block C of the park.

Mr Tighe acknowledged the unauthorised use of Block C as a fuel depot/sales outlet and the extension built to the side of it but said he intends to lodge a planning application to regularise those matters.

Mr Tighe, the owner of the site, told planners when they sought further information, that the shed would only be used to store vintage cars, cars and light goods vehicles and no repairs of vehicles would take place on site.

The cars will be a mix of Mr Tighe’s and his clients. He said some of the vehicles may not be road worthy but none of them would be asso- ciated with End of Life Vehicle activity and he claimed none of the vehicles stored on the site would be dismantled.

The applicant said that as the cars will only be stored on site and then removed again, no other waste would be generated.

The Council’s Waste Enforcement Officer however said that waste related queries raised by the Council were not adequately addressed by Engineering and Planning Consultancy D.A. Harte & Associates on behalf of Mr Tighe.

As a result strict conditions regarding the use of the site, the number of vehicles to be stored on site and the potential release of pollutants were attached to the planning permission.

One of the conditions stipulates that Mr Tighe must confirm the site is capable of adequately dealing with the potential release of pollutants from the cars.

He’s not permitted to carry out any waste related activities in the storage shed or compound.

No vehicle repairs are allowed be carried out and only 11 cars can be stored at any one time.
