‘Voted against democracy’

-

Dear Editor,

I am really concerned that two Sligo Fianna Fail TD’s voted against democracy yesterday.

By voting against the holding of a referendum on the 8th Amendment, they effectively told the people of Ireland “you have no right to vote on an issue that has been talked about, discussed and debated for years in this country”.

Regardless of one’s views on abortion, this is an astonishing act to shut down democracy and the people’s right to vote.

I hope the people of Sligo will hold these men to account in the next general election - another key feature of our democracy.

Regards, Jacqueline O’ Toole Maugherow Sligo Dear Editor,

Mary Lou McDonald (pictured) should consider reviewing her decision regarding making her TDs vote in favour of the legislation relating to the referendum to be held in May.

Sinn Féin members have to answer to God on the amendment on the Day of Judgement when they stand before God and have to give an account of their actions towards Yes and No to aborting the little babies in Ireland.

Sinn Féin hopes to increase its Dáil Eireann Deputies after the next general election and even be in Government but its actions towards voting Yes could cost them a high price by forcing the hands of its Dáil members.

Before us Irish are party members. We are followers of God and he says, ‘ thou shalt not kill.’

To vote Yes and think nothing of it is like washing your hands like Pontius Pilate saying it’s not my problem when it is and put your very immortal soul in danger and at risk to the fires of Hell.

I have protested with People Before Profit and Sinn Féin against the water charges in times past but that was a political fight.

This time it is spiritual warfare between God and the Devil, light against darkness.

Sinn Féin rank and file members should not be dragged down to Hell by their leadership, who, in my opinion, are totally wrong in wanting to repeal the Eighth Amendment and have abortion clinics established in very town and city across Ireland that will bring God’s judgement on us and our country.
