Eventful weekend for local athletes

IT was an extremely busy weekend at both national and internatio­nal level for Sligo’s young athletes.

In the Irish Life Health Juvenile Indoors, Lauren Cadden claimed gold in the 200 metres with a superb personal best of 24.4.

In the Schools’ Internatio­nal in Nottingham, Michael Morgan continued his rich vein of running form with an excellent 11th place, helping Ireland earn the silver medal.

Meanwhile in the under 19, 800 metre, a fabulous Leo Doherty performanc­e earned him silver in a time of 1:58:55.

Well done also to Sean McCabe who ran well in the semi finals of under 13 hurdles and Oma Murphy who jumped 4:24 to finish 7th in the under 13 Girls.

At senior level, in the Craughwell 10 mile, David Kearins was 19th in a field of 250 in a time of 1:01:49.

While in the 10K Trevor Hunter was 14th from 150 with 40:02.

In the Change your mind festival 5K, Alan Kearins was the winner in 17:37.
