LOTTO DRAW

The Geevagh Community Resource lotto draw was held in Paddy’s Bar on Saturday, March 17, for a jackpot of €2,200. The numbers drawn were 6, 11, 13 and 24. There was no winner. The next draw for a jackpot of €2,300 will be held on Saturday, March 24, in Shivnan’s Bar. The winners of the €20 prizes were Paddy’s Lads, c/o Paddy’s; Irene Kearns, Geevagh; Grainne Watters, Muirinstow­n, Co Wexford; Gay Huzzars, Geevagh Central and Marie, Lorraine and Eimear McDonagh, Geevagh.

REVISION COURSE

CLASP have organised a two-day revision course for local students on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 3, and four, in Gleann Hall staring at 9.30 a.m. each morning. The two days will cover maths and English along with stress/time management and preparatio­n techniques. Places are limited to book a place call the office at 071 9165577.

CAKE SALE

The annual Highwood\ Geevagh Mission cake sale takes place in Geevagh Church porch before and after the three o’clock ceremonies on Good Friday. Various cakes, breads and buns will be available for purchase. Later in the evening, following the Stations of the Cross in Highwood the cake sale will be held in the community centre. All money raised will be distribute­d to various missions throughout the world.

SCHOOLS HURLING

Congratula­tions to the boys of Geevagh NS who won the cumann na mBunscoil indoor hurling title recently. They bridged a seven-year gap to win against Rathcormac N.S. in the Teeling Centre in Collooney.

WEDDING BELLS

Best wishes to Tomás Waters and Maria Hoey, who were married recently in St Joseph’s Church. Tomás is son of Kevin and grandson of Margaret.

DANCING EXTRAVAGAN­ZA

All roads lead to the Radisson Hotel on Easter Sunday night for the Coola dancing extravagan­za. A total of 13 couple will take to the floor including a couple from Geevagh. Tom O’Reilly and his dance partner Mary Durcan and Peter Flynn and his dance partner, Marie-Claire Doyle will strut their stuff on the night. All funds raised through this venture will go towards a new astroturf pitch at Coola.

WELL DONE BOYS

Well done to the Coola under-15 boys soccer team who came from behind to win 2-1 in Ennis on Thursday last. Their opponents were Coláiste Mhuire, Askeaton. They are now in an all-Ireland final in a couple of week s time and they are wished the very best of luck.

DEFIBRILLA­TOR MOVED

The Defibrilla­tor (AED) which was located in the car park behind Paddy’s Bar has been moved and is now in position on the front wall of the Men’s Shed building. It is most important that this informatio­n is spread widely among the community so that everyone is aware of its location. Hopefully signs will be erected at the village crossroads to indicate its new location.

There is also a new AED located on the front of the Resource building. Log on to Geevagh. ie for a full list of AED locations around the parish.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Tirerrill Historical Society host author and Historian Prin Duignan, who will give a talk on renowned priest Fr Tom Maguire, who was born in Co Fermanagh in the late 1700s and is buried in Templeport Co Cavan. He reportedly seduced a local protestant woman and was a friend of the great Daniel O’Connell. The location is Highwood Community centre on Monday, April 9, at 8 p.m. Talk plus tea and scones five euro.
