Vice-Chairperson Seán Carroll welcomed everyone, congratulated the senior men and junior ladies on their success and looked forward to more progress by the club in the years to come. Senior manager John McPartland presented the League medals to the panel and announced Seán Murphy as Senior Player of the Year while Colm Scanlon received the award for Junior Player of the Year from Séamus Kilrehill. It was fitting that, for the year in which he received an AllStar that Kevin Banks was named as Senior Hurler of the Year. In presenting the award, Kieran Tobin also paid tribute to the club players who played in the All-Ireland U21 Hurling Final and looked ahead to the 2018 season with justifiable optimism. The award for Minor Ladies Player of the Year went to Éilis Callaghan and Kaela Kerrigan received the Most Improved. 2017 was a notable year for the ladies as they marked their return to the adult ranks with victory in the junior championship ten years after their previous title. One of the players in that team, Ruth Goodwin, captained the latest group to victory and was awarded Player of the Year. The medals were presented by Liam Loftus of Loftus Insurance. THE final award of the evening, that of Club Person of the Year, went to Cathall Martyn in recognition of years of service to the club in multiple roles from player to manager to club secretary. The Minor footballers started their league campaign on bank holiday Monday in Cuilbeg with an exciting encounter against St John’s. It what was a very open game of football were attacking play was the order of the day and goals proved to be the difference between the sides. Our lads started the game slowly and struggled to get hold of the game but by half time they were in control thanks to two well worked goals. St Johns started the second half the brightest and quickly eroded our advantage to the minimum. This sparked our lads into life once again as they struck five second half goals to finish the game off in our favour. Strong performances throughout the team were very encouraging and shows this team has great potential. The next game is at home against Geevagh / St Michael’s on Thursday the 29th.

Despite the loss it was a very useful workout and bodes well for the year ahead.
